Natural calamity in Chandrapur
Supporting the victims of a powerful natural calamity
by displaying the force and compassion of humanity!

Floods in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra have killed at least 20 people and displaced around 8000 people. The floods, due to more than usual rains that started on July 19, have created havoc by affecting 863 villages and submerging 1226 hectares of land. The floods are estimated to have harmed 2,16,450 hectare vegetation. 

Spandana Foundation made arrangements to help victims of this natural calamity by $1000 worth of basic relief material like groceries, clothes, vessels, medical-aid with the help of local volunteers.

Volleyball Tournament in Bay Area
Spandana team organized a volleyball tournament in Bay Area, CA to raise funds under the leadership of Giri Prasad Lankipalle. This is our third tournament in Bay Area and planning to make it a recurring event like any other event. 
  • 26 teams participated in the tournament
  • Sponsored by: BMC Software and CPA Sanjiv Gupta
  • Winners in advanced category - #yoloswag420noscope 
  • Winners in intermediate category - Afghan Club 
  • Winners in beginners category - Fremont Lazydads 
  • Winners in women & Youth: Touch 3 Tino Moms
  • Fund raised from teams entry fee and sponsors - $3500
  • Expenses to organize the tournament - $1500
  • Net fund raised - $2000
Ravi Penekala, Azad Aramandla, Rohit Tiple, Sunil Penna ,Hari Moola and several other volunteers donated their valuable time to make this tournament a huge success. Spandana''s little soldiers Ina and Sigdha raised $400 by selling cakes during the event.

Spandana - 8 Years in service
8 years in service
Spandana Foundation was established exactly this day (Aug-13th) of the year 2005 by a group of 3 people as just a group with an intention to help needy people back at home. We never ever imagined that one day it will become an organization and serve thousands of needy people with the help of thousands of members. The credit goes to all the members who gave the confidence, volunteers who gave the direction and donors who gave generous donations. Spandana team would like to take this opportunity to thank you all. This success journey wouldn't have been possible without your help and support. It's time to take a look at the milestones that we had crossed together:   
  • Formed as a group on Aug-13, 2005
  • Registered as a non-profit in Hyderabad on June-15, 2007
  • Registered as a non-profit in Illinois on Oct-11, 2007
  • Acquired 501 C 3 tax exemption status on May-11, 2009
  • Organizing the events in more than 10 cities across USA
  • Largest NRI charity organization with 3833 members 
  • Supported thousands of needy people in the areas of education , health and basic living

News Letter
Spandana Foundation made several changes in the communication model to effectively reach the members from time to time. Spandana is planning to sunset Yahoo group through which we use to send group communication earlier. Some of the new features of news letter: 
  • Communication will be sent to all the members as well as posted in all the social websites. 
  • All the news letters will be archived in our website as well as in Spandana News blog
  • Feature to forward news letter to a friend
  • Feature to add members into the group automatically
  • Feature to capture email id's of members who had shown an interest to volunteer 
  • 3 news items in each edition and 3 editions in a month

Chicago Volleyball Tournament-2013
Volleyball Tournament    
Spandana team organized a volleyball tournament in Chicago to raise funds under the leadership of Gopi Korukanti recently. This is our second tournament in Chicago and planning to make it a recurring event like any other event. 
  • 16 teams participated in the tournament
  • Elix Inc sponsored the event
  • Winners in advanced category - Berkshire 
  • Winners in intermediate category - Strikers 
  • Fund raised from teams entry fee and sponsors - $1740
  • Expenses to organize the tournament - $932
  • Net fund raised - $808
Sridhar Kolli , Santosh Deverneni, Prajakta Shinde and several other volunteers donated their valuable time to make this tournament a huge success!

The objective of Vidyalaya program is to help the Government schools that are providing formal education in rural areas in India. Spandana has been supporting these schools that have been neglected by local communities and government. Vidyalaya program is to provide amenities, tools which can facilitate good teaching environment and improve learning techniques in government schools by which we can help the children attending these from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Supporting the victims of a powerful natural calamity
by displaying the force and compassion of humanity!
Some times even the nature is angry with poor people with cyclones, floods and earth quakes. It shows its anger by taking away all their crop , cattle and making them homeless. Many of them don''t even have temporary shelter and some people are being haunted by terrible experiences left by the nature. As part of Aashraya project, Spandana supports victims of natural calamities back at home and as well as old-age homes, orphanage homes.
